"Rockville Rocks Festival"

Sunday, Sept. 14

 

The Senior Center will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, September 14 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm as part of the Town of Vernon’s Bicentennial Celebration.  Entertainment will be provided by members of Shirley McElroy’s line dance class at

 3:30 pm.  There will be demonstrations of activities offered at the Center such as mah jongg, dominos, pinochle, chess, pool, painting, knitting, as well other information of interest to seniors and their families/caregivers. Refreshments will be served.  Come and learn about the many services provided by the Senior Center and join in on the fun!  Everyone is welcome!

  Entertainment: - Second floor stage area

            Golden Steppers dance group

            Golden Voices choral group

            Line dancers

 

  Displays: - Second floor around edges

            Knitted/crocheted articles from group

            Art work from painting class

            Senior Center Historical scrapbooks

            Photo albums from Center activities and events

 

  Representatives:  Second floor

            Municipal agent

            Center Advisory Board

 

  Memorial video: - Small room second floor

 

  Demonstrations: - First floor back room

          Center activities

             Mah Jongg, Dominos, Pinochle, Chess, Bridge, Scrabble

 

  Pool room – demonstration.

 

  Refreshments:

          Coffee, punch, cookies and brownies

The  Vernon Senior Center is planning the following events in conjunction with Bicentennial Celebration:

1.     The election of a Senior King and Queen.

a.     Nomination box and ballots located at the Center.

2.     An Open House on September 14, 2008 in conjunction with the downtown celebration and the torch light parade.

a.     The open house will be showing a video of the people and activities of the center from inception to present.

b.    On going demonstrations of the various activities offered at the center. 

c.      Refreshments.

3.     A Senior Prom (dinner dance) on September 26, 2008.

               ENJOYING OUR GOLDEN YEARS

a.     To be held at the “TKB Club” 1 Vernon Ave,  Vernon.

b.    Starting a 5:00PM with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres

c.      Dinner catered by Monet’s Table of Tolland

d.    Music provided by “Big Band Sounds of the 40’s” an eighteen member band.

e.      To be held at the TKB Club, Vernon Avenue, Rockville

f.      Tickets will be $50.00 per person.

4.     A float representing the activities of the Vernon Senior Center and the “ENJOYING OUR GOLDEN YEARS”.
