talent dominates Vernon’s 200th birthday party “Vernon’s
First Town Meeting,” a one-act play written by
Melanie Lieberman and Dawn Rzeznikiewicz, is the Sheila English will exhibit selections
from her collection of vintage women’s attire. She has acquired items dating
from the Victorian era through the mid-twentieth century, which she oc The play draws upon the historical
record of Vernon’s very first town meeting, supplemented by other meetings to
give the audience a sampling of issues confronting the townspeople during that
period. Beyond such embellishments and a liberal dose of humor, the Also performing will be honorable Bruno
Simonetti, Bolton’s First Selectman, acting as Saul Alvord who was the Bolton
selectman and legislator when Vernon in 1808. Various local Vernon officials and
other residents will have roles in the drama. Descendants of the early Vernon
residents who attend this performance are invited to identify themselves to the
re-enactment committee so that they may be recognized. Admission is free. What:

Come celebrate our town’s actual 200th birthday with us! Vernon's
200th Birthday celebrated with a re-enactment October,

us as we go back in time, and re-live history with local elections and the
passing of various laws, take place before your eyes at the very first town
meeting in Vernon Rockville
High School Creative Writing students, Melanie Lieberman & Dawn
Rzeznikiewicz have created a humorous drama, bringing us back to the start of
the Town of Among
the props for the drama is a copy of original General Assembly resolution on
file in the State archives. State Representative Claire Janowski, 56th
District, retrieved the original and had it photocopied for the occasion. Other
items owned by the Vernon Historical Society will be integrated into the
production—a table and four chairs probably used in a public room. First
